BCA Team
Brett Balsley
President
Brett Balsley is the president of BCA. This high performing executive, insurance broker, and advisor has been an expert in customizing insurance products for the past 30 years.
His leadership mettle was tested early in 1997. While being groomed to take over the largest real estate agency in Atlantic County, his father passed away suddenly. Despite having the family business bought right out from under him, the executive responded by starting his own firm. He has since grown the company from a small local agency to a mid-sized regional firm sought out by national and international clients. Brett’s proven strength and track record for building and developing a highly regarded brokerage firm helped him attract equally qualified insurance experts to grow the agency even further. With fellow professionals, Larry Cohen and Nick Cashan joining the agency, Brett’s firm has been successful in diversifying its offerings. They are the well-trusted agency that pledges to put their commercial and residential clients’ needs first. Brett’s success ultimately stems from the fact that he treats clients like they are family. He has always provided products, services, and advice as if they are members of his own family. Developing close personal relationships with clients are hallmarks of BCA’s philosophy, one built on trust and responsiveness. So much so that Brett and his team formalized a pledge, which mirrors their longstanding business values. Our Pledge states that BCA will always work on behalf of clients by regularly reviewing their exposures, claims, coverage and the marketplace to ensure they are getting the products and services they need most. In his spare time, Brett sits on multiple insurance company councils. He is active in his community by serving on the Board of Directors for Shore Health Enterprises of Shore Memorial Hospital, the Ethics Committee of Shore Memorial Hospital and various local charity organizations and committees. For fun, Brett enjoys working out, snow skiing, golfing and spending time with his wife Shannon and two young daughters.Lawrence Cohen
Executive Vice President
Lawrence Cohen has been executive vice president and a partner at BCA Insurance Group since 2012. An expert insurance services executive, Larry has delivered well-designed and thoughtful solutions for his clients worldwide for the past 30 years.
Major clients who require highly strategic, innovative answers seek Larry’s counsel and services. He navigates the intricacies of complex terms and policies and provides risk management advice that helps his clients reduce costs while offering effective coverage and services.
As a partner in the BCA Insurance Group, he is responsible for attracting and retaining middle market clients by taking growth initiatives, such as the recent strategic affiliation with Saratoga Benefit Services. This was created to expand their capabilities in the employee benefits arena while providing the same caliber of service that BCA offers their insurance risk-management clients.
Larry has a proven track record of scaling up organizations. Since joining BCA, the firm has more than doubled its client base. To ensure the agency is able to grow and serve them, Larry helped cultivate a dedicated workforce and tripled its size from eight employees to 21. This expansion has required precise attention to detail and dedication to integrity - qualities Larry has maintained his entire professional life. He takes pride in the firm’s utmost respect for every client and employee, and the insurance companies with whom they work.
This dedication is the premise behind Our Pledge, which is an expression of what the agency and principals have long practiced. That pledge states that BCA will always work on behalf of clients by regularly reviewing their exposures, claims, coverage and the marketplace to ensure they are helping their clients achieve their goals and protecting their assets.
In his downtime, Larry shares his expertise while serving on two boards: The Advisory Board of Stockton University School of Business and the New Jersey Carnival and Amusement Safety Board. When he takes a rare break from work, he spends time engaging in cross-fit training.
Nick Cashan
VP/Resident Partner
Nick Cashan brings more than 40 years of strategic risk-management solutions to his role as Resident Partner of BCA’s Marlton office. A leader and expert, Nick guides the BCA team to solve complex problems for his middle-market clients to meet the needs of their operations.
Growing up in a family-owned, insurance brokerage firm that he helped grow, Nick’s entrepreneurial nature summoned him to venture out to take another approach that better fit his aspirations. The well-seasoned broker joined BCA, a privately held, regional firm, because he wanted to work in a less restrictive environment with a firm that could be more nimble and creative while providing hands-on service to its clients.
Nick works to understand the nuances of how his clients’ businesses work, the fundamentals about their products/services, their aversion to risk and their company culture. He takes that knowledge and delivers alternative solutions that help his clients achieve their goals, while protecting their assets.
Our Pledge of regularly reviewing their client’s policies to assess their exposures, claims, coverage and the marketplace is in keeping with Nick’s values of working on his client's behalf, 24-7.
When not working with clients, Nick serves his community with the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation Board or with initiatives he proposes for the Hammonton Chamber of Commerce. In his free time, Nick is testing out his new 5-iron at the driving range and, of course, spending time with his wife Linda and three grown children who have successfully settled in their respective careers.
Mark Larsen
Commercial Insurance Broker
When a colleague suggested that Mark’s former teaching skills would help make him a successful insurance broker, he was skeptical at first. But when he thought about the skillset that made him a good teacher - the ability to listen, educate and communicate -he realized he could put those same abilities to use in helping businesses.
His colleague was right. Since becoming an insurance professional and risk management specialist six years ago, Mark has been able to put his teaching skills to work on behalf of his clients. Mark’s ability to listen, study and provide business leaders with in-depth guidance is what makes him a trusted professional.
Mark works with middle market clients such as professional services, restaurants, and the construction industry, operating successful and often intricate businesses. While experienced in their own fields, many of them do not fully understand the complexities of insurance – and the repercussions of not being adequately protected.
Like preparing to ace a test, Mark makes sure his clients are properly prepared for what lies ahead. Mark and the BCA Team use its "total cost of risk" (TCR) approach to assess their needs, and then makes knowledgeable and competitively priced recommendations.
Our Pledge. As a professional with BCA Insurance Group, Mark is committed to providing his clients with essential information about their policies. As part of BCA’s pledge to their clients, Mark contacts his clients to review their:
- Exposures
- Claims
- Coverage
- The Marketplace
Kim Versaggi
Sr. Sales Executive
When Super Storm Sandy ripped through the Jersey Shore it not only affected Kim Versaggi professionally, but personally too. As she watched her own community, family and friends face the most devastating storm damage a generation had ever seen, Kim had the double task of helping her clients sort through the losses, one insurance policy at a time.
This storm had a devastating impact on the entire region. Among the many lessons that Sandy bestowed, it reinforced Kim’s insurance expertise that it is better to be prepared for an emergency than just simply react to one.
Mitigating loss and risk before it occurs has been at the core of Kim’s professional experience as a senior sales executive with the BCA Insurance group for the past 15 years.
Kim works with such clients as full-service restaurants and the trade industries. While knowledgeable in their own fields, many of them do not fully understand the intricacies of insurance – and the latent risks of not being adequately protected.
It is for that reason that Kim is particularly equipped to walk her clients through what lies ahead. Kim and the BCA Team use its "total cost of risk" (TCR) approach to assess their needs, and then makes knowledgeable and competitively priced recommendations.
Coordinating with the BCA team, Kim always stays ahead of marketplace trends and keeps her clients informed of any changes in the risk landscape within their particular industry.
Our Pledge. As a professional with BCA Insurance Group, Kim is committed to providing her clients with essential information about their policies. As part of BCA’s pledge to their clients, Kim contacts her clients to review their:
- Exposures
- Claims
- Coverage
- The Marketplace
